Fall 2026 cone 10 Soda Firing Workshop
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is completed over several days. Sessions take place in KAC;s Mezzanine Studio and Kiln Shed
Workshop Schedule:
· September 12, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Preparing Work for Soda Firing, Mezzanine.
· October 2, Friday, 12-5 pm: Prep Pieces and Kiln.
· October 3, Saturday, 10-5 pm: Prep Pieces and Load Kiln.
· October 4, Sunday, 7am -7pm: Fire the Kiln and Inject Soda Mixture.
· October 6, Tuesday, 4:30 pm - 7:30pm: Open & Unload Fired Kiln, Clean-up & Social
Join KAC’s collaboration with WCA for an active hands-on 5-day clay workshop where we explore preparing work and firing a Cone 10 soda reduction kiln. Participants are engaged in every stage of kiln preparation and firing, learning from each other and our instructors Wayne Pennington and Betsy Smith. Come ready to have fun while learning and sharing ideas with others.

If you have won a soda share in a previous raffle (Rat City or Kirkland Art Center), you may enter, but we will select first from those who have not won a share in soda firing before.
Winners of the soda share will be announced June 17th.
This is a cone 10 soda firing.
Winners must be present and participate in the workshop schedule. See above.
WCA and KAC will not pack or ship artwork.
Women + Queers in Clay from GasworksNYC
Sundays, February 1-April 5, 2026, Recordings available in the members Facebook group
This series of workshops will bring together the talents and perspectives of 10 women and gender non-conforming artists working in clay from around the country. Each week a different instructor will do an artist talk followed by a demonstration of one of their special skills or favorite techniques online via zoom. We have access to the recordings for at least one year.
Here's the lineup:
Ruth Easterbrook will do an artist talk followed by a demo on planning and strategizing for layering glazes
Andréa Keys Connell will do an artist talk and then demonstrate building large-scale sculptures
Amy Sanders will do an artist talk, then demonstrate how she builds a small pouring vessel with darting and alterations.
Latika Nehra will do an artist talk and then demonstrate how she translates ideas into hand-built forms
Max Trumpower will do an artist talk and presentation on glaze chemistry for beginners, followed by a demonstration on building figurative vessels
Maggie Boyd will do an artist talk and then demonstrate making candlesticks with surface decoration
Candice Methe will do an artist talk and then demonstrate how she builds animal effegies
Chanakarn Semachai (Punch) will do a short artist talk and then demostrate building a 2-legged standing sculpture with added sculptural elements
Kiran Joan will do an artist talk and then demonstrate illustrating dynamic sculptures
• Nala C. Turner will do an artist talk and demonstrate somatics (in wheel throwing), impressions, and altered forms
