Pottery NW: NEONTOT show by Robert Bruce

Pottery NW: NEONTOT show by Robert Bruce

Event Description: Robert Bruce’s two-year residency at Pottery Northwest concludes with the solo exhibition “Neontot”. Neontot is a careless, unabashed nihilistic response to the disposable, gentrified culture of the first world and an ironic critique of the art world. Humanity has paved over the beauty of the natural world replacing rivers, trees and open fields with highways, stadiums and casinos. Neontot follows suit by discarding the natural beauty inherent in crafting functional pottery and replacing it with fluorescent glow in the dark spray paint over a dangerously brittle ugly glaze.

Opening Reception: June 2 @ 6-8pm

"THE EXPRESSIVE POT" : Jack Troy workshop in Bremerton, WA

  • Olympic College Rotunda (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Event Description: Jack Troy in this NCECA pre-conference event: offers you the essential tools needed to craft jars, tea bowls, cups and vases. Jack’s demonstration will serve to explain not only what he makes but why; how he thinks about where pieces go in the kiln; the forces of fire and the weather it creates. “Firing has everything to do with what I make”; in the front: heavy weather, dark and hot, in the middle: thinning out, in the back: cooler and swirling. “Action is what I think about, experiments and exchanging information”. Jack will demonstrate wheel work, making tea bowls, cylindrical forms, vases and functional work the first day; trim and alter, carving and texture the second day. His works are infused with poetry and the love of what he does; “It’s why I get up in the morning”.
